Twitch is buying Curse

If youre not a gamer, then the headline above probably doesnt make much sense. If you are, then you know that Twitchs latest acquisition, could open up a lot of possibilities for streamers. The popular streaming network ,and leading social video platform, announced today that it has signed an agreement to acquire Curse, a leading global multimedia and technology company focused on creating content and products specifically for gamers.

Curse has been around since 2006, and it is home to some of the worlds most popular gaming websites. Those sites offer gamers the expertise and toolswikis, news, guides, and databasesto help them with the latest games. Today, more than 30 million people visit Curses web properties, video channels, social media channels, and desktop applications each month.

Weve long been fans of Curse, which is an innovator in the games industry with a strong culture built around its offeringsfrom Curse Voice and Curse Client to Gamepedia, said Emmett Shear, CEO of Twitch. Amazon took over Twitch, and since then, 100 million community members gather to watch and talk about video games with more than 1.7 million streamers each month. Almost every aspect of the gaming world deals with Twitch now, including game developers, publishers, media outlets, events, and of course the millions of gamers and general users that populate its channels. Twitch has become even more popular now that esports have grown, and it is has recently launched Twitch Creative, a category devoted to artists and the creative process.\
